AEW Collision Results 12/23 - The Acclaimed Defend The AEW Trios Championship, Thunder Rosa In Action
Welcome to Wrestling Inc.'s live coverage of the December 23 episode of "AEW Collison." It's Collision's version of the "Holiday Bash" special. This week's episode comes from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The Acclaimed will be in action tonight, it's their first in-ring match since November. Anthony Bowens, Billy Gunn, and Max Caster are defending their AEW Trios Titles against Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin) and Action Andretti.
The Blue League finals of the AEW Classic Continental Classic will be set after tonight's matches. The matches will see Blackpool Combat Club stablemates Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli face each other, Daniel Garcia versus Brody King, and Eddie Kingston will be in action against Andrade El Idolo.
Thunder Rosa is back in action, she'll be teaming with Abadon to face Julia Hart and Skye Blue. Rosa has been out of action since August 2022. Also, Brian Cage will be in the ring with Keith Lee and we'll hear from AEW TNT Champion Christan Cage.
AEW Continental Classic Match: Bryan Danielson Vs. Claudio Castagnoli
The show kicks off with Danielson and Castagnoli. Castagnoli and Danielson take to the ground. Danielson has Castagnoli in submission and goes for a cover, but Castagnoli's shoulders are up. Danielson kicks Castagnoli in the jaw. Danielson is in the corner of the ring, Castagnoli hits Danielson with uppercuts and a thumb to the eye. He gets a two-count. A clothesline. Danielson gets Castagnoli in a LeBell lock after Castagnoli tries to do a Giant Swing. Castagnoli frees himself, but a shotgun dropkick and then knees.
They finally get back in the ring and Danielson has Castagnoli in the corner. Big chops then a running dropkick. Another one. He tries to do a third, but Castagnoli reverses it to a Giant Swing. Castagnoli gets a two-count. The match is now outside of the ring, Castagnoli hits Danielson, who is sitting on a chair.
Commercial break.
Castagnoli and Danielson are on the top rope. Danielson gets down, and then kicks Castagnoli. He picks him up and tosses him. Danielson has the LeBell lock-in again, but the ref didn't see the ropes. Castagnoli hits the avalanche suplex, there are less than 5 minutes.
European uppercut from Danielson. Castagnoli hits the Neutralizer and is close to pinning his stablemate. Danielson hits the Psycho Knee and gets a two-count. Three minutes remain. Kicks to Castagnoli's face, but he reverses it. Upkicks from both men back and forth. Castagnoli has the sharpshooter locked in and one minute left. 30-seconds remain. Still locked in. Danielson is trying to shift his hips. 10-seconds, Castagnoli drops it. He goes for a cover. The bell rings and it's a draw!
Winner: Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli via a draw. Danielson has advanced to the finals with 10 points.
AEW Trios Title Match: The Acclaimed (c) Vs. Top Flight & Action Andretti
Post-match, they shake hands and hug. Castagnoli does look a little disappointed, he ends the tournament with 7 points.
Video package shows the Gold League from Wednesday.
Next up is the Trios Title match. The match starts with Caster and Darius. A side headlock. A blind tag to Bowens. He goes for the cover and gets a two-count. Darius kicks Bowens in the face. Andretti tags in and gets a two-count. An elbow to Andretti, the rock, paper, scissors, and a two-count.Then a Dropkick from Dante, who later gets yelled at by Gunn because he's not the legal man. Gunn tags in and it's Gunn vs. Andretti. He looks irritated.
Commercial break.
Back from the break, it's Gunn and Andretti still in the ring. Gunn hits hard in the top turnbuckle. He falls down but still makes a tag to Caster. Andretti makes a tag to Dante. A big top crossbody to Caster. A standing shooting star and a one-count. All three are in the match and attack Gunn. Gunn catches Andretti, then bodyslams Darius. Bowens is on the top rope, he was going for the scissors me timbers, but Dante and Andretti stop it with dropkicks.
Andretti gets a two-count after Top Flight flew onto Caster's partners. Caster pulls Andretti's tights and gets the win.
Winners: The Acclaimed (c)
Post-match, they shake hands even though the match wasn't clean.
A video promo airs with Hook. He tells Yuta that he will see him next week at Worlds End.
Brian Cage Vs. Keith Lee, Christian Cage Speaks
Next up is Lee and Cage. The bell rings, they stare at each other, and then lock up. Cage puts Lee in a headlock. Lee pushes him off, then Cage tries to do a shoulder tackle. Lee hits a Hurricanrana. Cage is looking for a German suplex, but can't, instead, he hits Lee with a tornado DDT.
Back from the break, Cage was trying to suplex Lee. Lee is on the top rope, Cage follows him. He does a superplex, it's crazy! Pump kicks, then a faceplant from Cage. Prince Nana brings out a cinderblock to Cage to mock Lee. Lee hits the Big Bang Catastrophe
and gets the pin.
Winner: Keith Lee
Post-match, Lee grabs the cinderblock and says he is going to make his voice heard at "Dynamite"
Backstage with "Timeless" Toni Storm. Mariah May says she is going to debut soon.
Christian Cage and Nick Wayne come out to the ring. Cage says that Shayna can tell fans why she hit Adam Copeland weeks earlier. The crowd boos her when she grabs the mic from him. She says she hit Copeland in Montreal because of obviously what he did to Wayne. The crowd cheers. She says the one person who cares as much as she does for her son, is Cage. Cage grabs the mic, and talks about how Shayna worked waitress jobs for her son. He calls Shayna his Matriarch. He says that his family is complete. He says that he will face Copeland at Worlds End.
Backstage with Big Bill and Ricky Starks. They tease about Kenny Omega having diverticulitis. Chris Jericho shows up, he says that he's not forfeiting anything.
AEW Continental Classic Match: Brody King Vs. Daniel Garcia
Garcia slaps King, who reacts by shoving him into the corner of the ring. He does the cannonball to Garcia and gets a two-count. Chops to Garcia. Garcia is clinging to the ring, but he keeps getting slugged by King. A headlock to Garica, and then King drops him outside of the ring.
Back from the break. Garcia is back in the ring. He a senton to Garcia and he gets a two-count. Pumpkicks by Garcia, who is on his back. Knife-edge chops. Daddy Magic is yelling, "Get Up Danny." King lets him give him some chops. Garica tries to suplex him, but King doesn't budge. Garcia dances, then does a suplex, and the crowd goes wild. He gets a two-count. A DDT to Garcia then a King Kong Lariat. Garica kicks out of it.
Garica wins with a rollup. It's his first win in the tournament. He has 3 points finally! King doesn't advance because he only has 6 points.
Winner: Daniel Garcia
Post-match, the lights go out, and Malakai Black and Brody King have Daniel Garcia. Daddy Magic tries to save him. FTR comes out to save them both. FTR says they want a match against House of Black.
Julia Hart & Skye Blue Vs. Abadon & Thunder Rosa
Blue and Abadon kick off the match. She has Abadon in the corner. Hart tags herself in and Hart repeatedly attacks her. Hart goes for the crossbody but Abadon grabs Hart and throws her to the mat. Abadon was going to cover but decided to keep attacking Hart. Abadon was about to tag in Rosa, but Blue knocked her down. They tag team against Abadon. Hart stomps on Abadon's back. Commercial break.
Back from the break, Hart and Abadon are still in the ring. Abadon bites the arm of Hart. Rosa gets tagged in and does double knees to Hart. A flying lariat and knees to Blue. The crowd is chanting, "This is awesome." Rosa gets a two-count because Hart breaks the pin. Hart throws her out of the ring and Abadon comes it, but a big thrust kick to Abadon. Rosa is back and she goes for the running bomb, but changes to a thrust kick to the face of Rosa. Hart is now on the top rope, but Abadon attacks her. She is hanging upside down and Blue flies into her partner. Rosa gets a Tijuana Bomb for the win. Abadon held Hart back from saving Blue.
Winners: Abadon and Thunder Rosa
AEW Continental Classic Match: Andrade El Idolo Vs. Eddie Kingston
Idolo puts Kingston in a headlock, he breaks out of it. Idolo flies and goes for the cover, and gets a two-count. Looks like Idolo wants to get Kingston in an armlock. Kingston knees Idolo then stomps on him. A clothesline to Idolo.
Commercial break.
Back from the commercial. Idolo works on Kingston's knees. He does the three amigos and gets a two-count. A big boot to Kingston's face. Kingston though is fired up and he chops to Idolo. Idolo tells him to "come on." A big exploder and Kingston only gets a two-count. He looks frustrated. Kingston is out of the ring and Idolo hits a moonsault. He then does a standing moonsault, but still doesn't get the three-count, now he's the frustrated one.
Kingston limps over to Idolo, who is now on the ground. He does a half-nelson and Idolo backs him in the corner. A spinning back elbow. He goes for the figure four, but Kingston breaks it with the ropes. Five minutes remain. Kingston hits Idolo with a backfist, then does it again. Kingston then hits the Northern Lights Drive for the win! He's going to the semi-finals against Danielson.
Winner: Eddie Kingston
Postmatch, Danielson comes out. Kingston limps over and Danielson stares at him before the show ends.
