British Wrestling Legend Mick McManus Passes Away, WWE And TNA Stars React
British pro wrestling legend Mick McManus passed away at the age of 93.
"Mick never recovered from the loss of his beloved wife Barbara and lost the will to live, despite the loving care of the nurses at the celebrity home for retired actors Brishing House where he lived out his final days," Frank Rimer, who runs the British Wrestlers Reunion, told The Sun.
F4WOnline.com noted that McManus was the biggest star of his era in the U.K., and was voted into the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame last November.
Digital Spy has an article on McManus' passing at this link, and noted that in addition to winning the European Middleweight Championship four times, he also won the British Welterweight Championship in 1949 and the British Middleweight Championship in 1967.
TNA British Boot Camp contestant Marty Scurll commented on his Twitter about McManus' passing, writing, "RIP Mick McManus, the greatest British wrestling villain in history. I was fortunate enough to meet Mick a few times. True gent. Sad day."
William Regal also remembered McManus, writing on his Twitter, "Very sorry to hear of the passing of one of my childhood heroes Mick McManus.I only got to see him Wrestle live once.It was on my 9th birthday and remember him giving me an autograph.Got to know him in the 80's and he was always nice.Great man. Mick,along with 'Iron Man' Steve Logan and 'Cyanide' Sid Cooper were the reasons as a child I wanted to be a wrestler."
