WWE NXT Results (4/17): Velveteen Dream Defends Against Buddy Murphy, Shayna Baszler Vs. Kairi Sane

Tonight features the NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler defending against Kairi Sane, if Sane loses she can no longer challenge for the title. NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream will also defend his title against Buddy Murphy. Johnny Gargano will also be making an appearance on tonight's show.

Velveteen Dream (c) vs. Buddy Murphy (NXT North American Championship)

Feeling out process as the two lock up and go to the corner. Dream with a shove, Murphy goes right into a side headlock, taking him down in the middle of the ring. Dream counters with gets a side headlock of his own. Multiple counters leader into a kip-up stalemate. More shoving, more counters, Murphy with a hurricanrana that sends Dream to the floor, Murphy looks to fly, but Dream slides into the ring with a taunt, but gets clocked in the face with a knee, cover, two.

Dreams gets sent out to the floor again, Murphy with a flip over the top rope and clears out dream. He sends Dream back into the ring, meteora off the top rope, pin, two-count. Crowd is about 75/25 in favor of Dream in this one as Murphy lands a big kick to Dream's back. He looks for another, Dream avoids it and lands one of his own. Murphy locks in a sleeper hold. Dream recovers, hits a superkick. Back and forth strikes, Dreams with a dropkick, back elbow, and clotheslines Murphy out to the floor, Dream with a double ax handle to the floor.

Back in the ring, Dreams heads to the top rope, leaps, lands on his feet, hits a codebreaker, cover, two. Dream with tries for a dream valley driver, gets kicked in the face. Murphy with a tornado snap over the top rope, climbs back to the top rope, but gets slapped in the face. Dream heads up, both swing away, and both crash down to the floor. Referee starts up a ten-count, both make it in at nine. Dream with multiple punches, Murphy hits a DDT, cover, two. Dream valley driver hits, cover, two.

Dream heads up to the top turnbuckle, Murphy follows, tucks the head, superkick, sit-down powerbomb, cover, two. Both end up on the apron, Murphy with a big leaping knee strike to Dream's face. Murphy struggles to get Dream back in the ring as the referee counts away, Murphy jumps in and out of the ring to break the count. He dumps Dream back in the ring, Dream with a fameasser as Murphy gets into the ring, Dream hits purple rainmaker, cover, 1-2-3.

Winner: Velveteen Dream via Pinfall to retain the NXT North American Championship

- Street Profits head over to NXT GM William Regal's office to ask for an opportunity. Ford knocks on the door and the NXT Tag Team Champions War Raiders walk out and say they have heard what the Street Profits have been saying. They says next week the two teams will meet in the ring.

- NXT Champion Johnny Gargano heads out to the ring with most of the crowd holding up "Johnny Champion" signs. Gargano says they've been waiting a very long time for this moment. Most of the crowd with a "You deserve it!" chant, with some "No, you don't!" in response. Gargano talks about becoming champion at TakeOver, but is quickly interrupted by the Undisputed Era. Cole says he's not going to listen to another love fest with Gargano and the NXT Universe. Cole says he beat Gargano and if it was any other match, he would have won. Crowd with a "You tapped out!" chant.

Cole says Gargano is an idiot and is nothing more than a punk. He is the uncrowned champion. Gargano wonders if Cole is so emotional because his "little boy band" is having trouble. Gargano reminds Cole he won 2-1 in their match and that makes him champion. Cole tries to keep talking, Gargano stops him and says "If I lost, I wouldn't be out here complaining like a...bay bay!" Gargano offers up another fight with Cole, three of the members approach the ring with Roderick Strong attacking from behind. The group holds down Gargano as Cole hits him with a superkick. The group does their taunt over a fallen Gargano.

- KUSHIDA will make his NXT in-ring debut in two weeks.

- Highlights are shown of Lars Sullivan and Kairi Sane moved to SmackDown, while the War Raiders headed to RAW.

Dominik Dijakovic vs. Aaron Frye

Spinning kick immediately drops Frye, pin, and we're done here.

Winner: Dominik Dijakovic via Pinfall

- Post-match, Dijakovic wants the mic. Dijakovic says he's only in NXT because his family came to the United States. That power is coursing through his blood and now he only see the North American Championship. "So, feat your eyes, Velveteen Dream."

- Backstage, Cathy Kelley speaks with Undisputed Era. She asks them about the tension within the group that looks to be gone now. Cole says emotions don't dictate how they act around each other. William Regal shows up and says he talked with Gargano, who is more than happy to face Undisputed Era and he specifically mentioned wanting to face Roderick Strong, not Cole. Next week Gargano will take on Strong. Cole looks very bothered by this announcement.

– Backstage, Aliyah and Vanessa Borne talk about Candice LeRae who defeated Aliyah last week. Aliyah says LeRae just got lucky because she and Borne were too busy in New York City shopping and sight-seeing. Borne says next week LeRae should find a partner for a tag match.

Shayna Baszler with Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir (c) vs. Kairi Sane (NXT Women's Championship – If Sane loses, she'll never get another opportunity at the title.)

Champion is stunned early, ends up on the floor, Sane with a crossbody off the apron. Sends Baszler back into the ring, Sane flies off the top rope, connect, pin, barely a one-count. Sane gets caught with a flurry of strikes, cover, two. Baszler with a boot to the back, punch to the back, running knee to the face, cover, two. Baszler tries to choke out Sane early, but gets hit with a few back elbows. Baszler looks for another running knee, nobody home, Sane with a spear.

Multiple open palm strikes by Sane, rolling neckbreaker, the anchor is locked in, Baszler is able to claw her way to the ropes for the break. Sane heads to the second rope, insane elbow to the back of Baszler's neck. Sane heads to the top rope and eats a kick. Baszler goes up, looks for a suplexplex, but her back gives out, Sane knocks Baszler back and hits a double stomp on the champ.

Sane tries for a flying elbow to the floor, misses and goes into the barricade. Referee checks on her as Baszler goes right after her opponent. Sane is tossed into the ring, Baszler really works over Sane's arm. Baszler lifts and dumps Sane to the mat, cover, Baszler goes right back to the arm and wrenches away on it. Sane finally gets a foot on the bottom rope to break the hold. Sane heads out to the floor, Referee checks on her again and decides to call for a doctor. Sane says she's fine, Io Shirai comes out now. Baszler just grabs Sane and pulls her back into the ring. Baszler pins down Sane's arm and looks to stomp on it. Shirai leaps in and shoves Baszler away for the DQ.

Winner: Shayna Baszler via DQ – Sane can never challenge for the NXT Women's Championship

- Post-match, Baszler and Shirai jaw at each other for a moment, Shafir and Duke yank her out of the ring and hold her as Baszler stomps away on Sane's arm. The trio heads off as Shirai checks on her friend. Crowd boos the champ. Shirai is not happy as she yells at Baszler.
